There are beautiful walks directly from the cottage- along the canal and in the woods behind, which support wild deer.

Marsden-  Pretty village with a variety of shops and pubs including the Riverhead Pub and Restaurant (own brewery) . Film location for “Where the Heart Is”,"Jericho","In the Flesh" (and occassionally “The League Of Gentemen”!)  Marsden is a "Walkers are Welcome" village.

Standedge Visitor Centre  Describing the history of Britain’s longest canal tunnel, including boat trips- 5 minute drive

National Trust Marsden Moor Estate   Huge area of unspoilt Pennine moorland and valleys surrounding Marsden

Holmfirth- film location for “Last Of The Summer Wine” - 15 minute drive

Olive Branch restaurant- 5 minutes walk away, awarded AA rosette 

The White Hart restaurant, in the Good Food Guide, is within 10 minutes drive.

Eureka Children's Museum- named number one in The Independent's best hands-on museums- 30 minute drive

National Coal Mining Museum- industrial museum with trips underground- 30 minute drive


Yorkshire Sculpture Park- 40 minute drive

Bronte Parsonage Museum- 50 minute drive

The cities of Leeds, Manchester, Bradford are within easy reach.

Fishing permits are available for the lake.

There is a golf course above Marsden.

Swimming pool and other leisure facilities in nearby Slaithwaite.
